About James P. O’Toole

James P. O'Toole is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the only Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties for the practice of plastic surgery of the face and the entire body. He is also certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. O'Toole was raised in the Point Breeze neighborhood in the city of Pittsburgh and received his Bachelor of Science in Pre-professional Studies at the University of Notre Dame, his Medical Doctorate from St. Louis University and completed a five-year General Surgery residency at Allegheny General Hospital.

He holds the distinction of being the first plastic surgeon in the country fellowship-trained for Body Contouring after massive weight loss from the University of Pittsburgh. He has additional fellowship training in the treatment of burns and complex reconstruction from the Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, New York. He completed his Plastic Surgical training with the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group in Garden City, New York, which established one of the longest-running plastic surgery training programs in the nation, and has the distinction of being the largest and oldest continually running plastic surgical group in the country.

Dr. O'Toole is active in local and state medical societies in an effort to further the care of his patients. He travels nationally to lecture to professional colleagues on cosmetic approaches to breast surgery for both aesthetic and reconstructive purposes. He joined the private practice of Dr. Leo McCafferty in 2008 because of a shared vision and approach to patient care.
